Connecting the Dots Between Education & Mental Health.

My Purpose:

I want to help people.

Hey! I'm Hannah, but that's not all that I am. I live life to the fullest exploring pursuits that not only bring me joy but allow an avenue to help people around me. I serve in the classroom each day at Miss Palmer, teaching 3rd graders everything from multiplication and division, and paragraph writing to problem solving. Outside of the classroom I am the founder of the Sunflower Project - a 501c3 non profit organization that is focused on bringing financial aid, community support and social emotional resources to the table. But that's not all. I also serve communities across the state as Miss Spirit of the State embodying the spirit of all Michiganders. Bringing light to mental health conversations, and volunteering in the community, I am able to directly impact the lives of community members. Although some may call me busy, I prefer the word fulfilled. Each facet of my life that I am pursuing teaches me, inspires me and gives me tools to continue to learn and grow. As a lifelong lover of learning, I am excited to continue to explore my passions, learn from those around me and spread beams of change and light across Michigan.

How the Sunflower Project has

made a difference.

As the founder of the Sunflower Project, I'm driven by a passion for mental health advocacy. Our mission is to educate, support, and destigmatize, empowering individuals and communities to navigate mental health challenges with resilience and compassion.

01

Financial Assistance

Financial restrictions often result in many people with diagnosed mental health conditions, not receiving the treatment they need. Often many individuals are unable to apply for scholarship assistance due to moderate grades/lower GPA or lack of extracurriculars, due to the need to maintain their mental health. Although the resources are available, many people struggle to receive the treatment they need. The Sunflower Project aims to fill this gap.

02

Community

Community extends far beyond our immediate circles of family and friends—it encompasses a vast network of interconnected individuals. At the Sunflower Project, we are dedicated to nurturing a supportive mental health community where candid conversations about our well-being are encouraged and valued. Rooted in compassion and empathy, our community thrives on individuals initiating dialogues about mental health. Together, we strive to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness. By engaging in meaningful conversations and simply asking, 'How are you?' we can collectively #BeTheirSunflower for those in need. This concept is inspired by the way sunflowers lean towards each other for additional sunlight, symbolizing our commitment to providing support to those around us.

03

Education

As an educator and mental health advocate, I've witnessed first hand the impact of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) both within and beyond the classroom. Through engaging keynote presentations and active participation in community events, I've shared my mental health journey and the resources provided by the Sunflower Project. By donating sets of SEL books, such as the 'Little Spot of Emotion' series, to classrooms statewide, we've empowered students to recognize and navigate their emotions effectively. These conversations, tailored to people of diverse backgrounds and age groups, highlight the importance of mental health as a component of overall well-being. Encouraging questions and fostering understanding and empathy are the essential building blocks for cultivating a compassionate and resilient community.

Miss Michigan Candidate

Bringing Change to a New Level!

As Miss Spirit of the State 2025, I am honored to represent the compassion and spirit of communities across the state. This June, I eagerly await the chance to compete for the title of Miss Michigan. The Miss America Opportunity is not just about personal achievement; it's a platform for the development of young women, fostering professional skills that will serve us well into our careers. My participation in the Miss Michigan Scholarship Program and many local organizations has boosted my confidence, honed my professional abilities, and deepened my commitment to advocacy. Through this journey, I've been able to secure my dream job, earn valuable scholarships, and forge meaningful connections with those around me. I am the person I am today, because of the friendships, mentorships, and dedication of volunteers within this organization.

Life as a 3rd Grade Teacher

01

Impactful Influence

As a third-grade teacher, I have the incredible opportunity to help inspire and motivate my students. Together through our commitment to our class community, we work toward empowering and supporting each other from multiplication facts, to cheering one another on on the soccer field. Seeing students achieve their goals is truly incredible.

02

Seeing Growth

Witnessing the significant academic and personal growth of my students throughout the school year is incredibly rewarding. It fills me with joy to see them develop both intellectually and socially as they overcome challenges and achieve milestones.

03

Creative Teaching Opportunities

Being Miss Palmer allows me to explore a variety of creative teaching methods to engage my curious and eager learners. From hands-on activities to interactive projects and fun games, I enjoy crafting lessons that make learning enjoyable and memorable for my students.

04

Building Relationships

One of the most fulfilling aspects of being a third-grade teacher is building positive relationships with my students. Creating a supportive classroom environment where everyone feels valued and respected strengthens our bond and enhances the learning experience for all.

05

Joyful Energy

The vibrant and enthusiastic energy that my students bring to the classroom is contagious. Their excitement for learning each day reminds me that any topic can be engaging if you add a touch of imagination. My students love asking critical thinking questions and solving problems in creative and unique ways.
