As a Teacher
I cherish the heartfelt words, 'I love you Miss Palmer.' During my first year of teaching, my aspiration was to inspire students and help them recognize their inherent worth. A significant number of my students had faced various forms of trauma. One student, in particular, grappled with issues of self-love, confidence, and motivation. Through daily affirmations, meaningful conversations, and consistent reminders, I forged a connection with him. On the final day of the school year, he handed me a small drawing portraying himself playing football, accompanied by the powerful words, 'I love you Miss Palmer.' This moment has become my most cherished possession, symbolizing the transformative journey of our relationship, where he learned to believe in himself.

As an organization, our commitment lies in offering support and resources that extend beyond the classroom. We prioritize providing scholarships and financial assistance for psychiatric care, recognizing the importance of mental health in overall well-being. Fostering a positive mental health community is a key element of our overarching goal - that we can all #BeTheirSunflower for those in our lives. Additionally, we assist individuals in navigating resources, from finding therapy to accessing social-emotional learning materials. Our initiatives also include providing social-emotional learning books for classrooms and libraries, empowering students to understand and manage their emotions. We also offer 'Little Spot of Emotion' book sets, aiding students in identifying and processing their feelings. Furthermore, our social-emotional toolkits, equipped with fidgets and activities, aim to help students identify their support networks and develop self-regulation skills. Through these efforts, we strive to foster a nurturing environment that supports the holistic growth and well-being of individuals.

As Miss Spirit of the State
As a Miss Spirit of the State, I am deeply committed to serving and empowering communities across our state. Through this opportunity, I have gained skills that will serve me the rest of my life. The scholarship dollars that I have earned have allowed me to obtain my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and soon my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. One of my favorite moments since being crowned in July, has been building connections with people across the state. During a BeWell 3k, 5k and 10k, I met a man who was running the 5k for his heart health and to advocate for their health of others in his life. Toward the end of the race, his strides grew shorter and breaths were sharper. Long story short, we ran the last 1/2 mile of the race together, crown and all cheering each other on. I strive to continue leaving a lasting legacy, building on the legacies of those before me, of the power of community and kindness. Let's run this race together!

As Hannah, I hold a deep conviction in the power of compassion and support for those around me. It's essential to me to extend a helping hand to those in need, whether through scholarships and funding for psychiatric care or by connecting individuals with resources for therapy and emotional well-being, or even a friendly conversation over coffee. I believe in the transformative power of a conversation and a helping hand. Witnessing the impact of initiatives like the 'Little Spot of Emotion' book sets on young individuals' lives fills me with immense gratitude and purpose. My journey is about empowering others to navigate life's challenges with resilience and self-awareness, knowing that together, we can create a more supportive and compassionate world.

Leaving a Lasting Legacy
I strive to leave a lasting legacy of compassion and community. Through small acts of kindness, I work hard to ensure everyone I encounter feel valued and appreciated. Imagine your ultimate celebrity or role model taking a genuine interest in you, sitting down to listen and affirm your importance. I hope to be associated with warmth, joy, and confidence, symbolized by the imagery of sunflowers, sunshine, and the color yellow. Through learning from my role models and the powerful individuals who came before me, I am reminded that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I look forward to leaving a legacy that build on the impact of those before me, and continuing through compassion and connection.
